About the course

Course overview

Add advanced skills to design, deploy and manage AI and machine learning systems, and lead change in your field. You’ll use AI-assisted Python and work hands-on with Google Cloud technologies.

Organisations are using AI and machine learning to create new products and services, improve processes and support decisions. The MSc Applied AI and Machine Learning gives you the advanced technical and practical skills to build, deploy and manage those solutions.

You’ll explore advanced machine learning, deep learning, generative AI and foundation models. You’ll work with large language models, embeddings and retrieval-augmented generation, which connects an AI model to trusted sources of information. You’ll also learn MLOps: how to deploy, monitor and manage AI systems reliably at scale.

You’ll also examine AI strategy, ethics, governance, regulation and risk, so you understand not only how AI works but how organisations can adopt it responsibly. The course ends with an Industry Innovation Project that brings it all together.

Specialist skills you’ll build

  • Advanced machine learning and deep learning.
  • Generative AI, foundation models and large language models.
  • Embeddings and retrieval-augmented generation.
  • MLOps: deploying, monitoring and managing AI systems.
  • AI strategy, ethics, governance, regulation and risk.
  • An applied technical portfolio.
How your skills grow

How you’ll build and launch AI systems, stage by stage

First, you’ll build advanced models with AI-assisted Python. Next, you’ll put generative AI to work, run AI systems at scale and build automated agents that run tasks for you. Finally, you’ll tackle a real-world or industry challenge and gain the skills to work towards Google Cloud certifications.

  1. First

    Advanced models

Build and evaluate advanced machine learning and deep learning models, using AI-assisted Python to work faster and test more ideas.

  2. Next

    Generative AI in real-world use

Work with foundation models, large language models and retrieval-augmented generation, then deploy, monitor and manage AI systems at scale with MLOps. You’ll also set up no-code and low-code agents: automated agents that run tasks for you.

  3. Finally

    Industry Innovation Project

Design, build and evaluate an applied AI solution to a real-world or industry challenge, and show its value and limits in a portfolio ready for your next career step. You’ll also gain the skills to work towards Google Cloud certifications.
